It's always nice to revisit "Commando" and realize what a gloriously cheesy and ridiculous movie it is.
Much like "Roadhouse", another 80s Joel Silver production, this is a film that embraces how ridiculous it is and goes all out to show you a good time. Right from the start when you have Arnold carrying a whole damn tree on his shoulder and then he and adorable little Alyssa Milano literally feeding a deer by hand like a Disney flick, you know you are not to take anything seriously. And the the ridiculousness just piles up. The one-liners (some of Arnold's best and this was the film that really showed off his comedic skills for the first tlme). Dan Hedaya's attempt at a South American accent. A fight between Arnold and Bill Duke that has them crashing into the filming of a porno film. Rae Dawn Chong wielding a rocket launcher. The order to contact "the Federal Building" (which is akin to a character asking for a generic "beer"). David Patrick Kelly getting dropped off a cliff and we never hear him hit the bottom (seriously, if you do a drinking game around the continuity errors and special effects failures in this film, you WILL die). The climax where Arnold takes out an entire army and yet no one can touch him (to borrow an MST3K riff, "Why is it so hard to hit the slow giant white thing?"). Vernon Wells's EVERYTHING (seriously, it's like the guy mainlined coke before every take). My favorite bit, however, is the fracas at the mall where Arnold takes on all those security guards. Either the mall has a security guard convention going on or there's an occupying army in the place. And then Arnold does a Tarzan swing on a balloon. Glorious. And then there's this exchange between Chong and Arnold:"You steal my car, you rip the seat out, you kidnap me, you ask me to help you find your daughter, which I very kindly do, and then you get me involved in a shoot out where people are dying and there's blood spurting all over the place, and then I watch you rip a phone booth out of a wall, swing from the ceiling like Tarzan, and then there's a cop that's going to shoot you and I save you and they start chasing me! Are you going to tell me what's going on or what?!""No.""NO? NO?!"Sorry, Chong, you won't get logic in this film. Just enjoy the ride. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/ESnFGt7
