Alien: Covenant - why are all the crew members so stupid?

I wanted to like this movie, it’s beautifully shot as expected and has some solid action, but seriously why was every person in this movie so dumb? Typically tropes of people walking alone in places they shouldn’t, Guy lighting a cig 5 minutes into being on a new planet, etc. But by far the most egregious scene was the couple having sex and being killed. What in the flying fuck was that? People are dying, your ship is under attack, alien life forms are eating people alive, but not let’s fool around a bit in the shower real quick. It’s like something you’d see in some 80s fourth sequel of a horror film. Some of the choices Ridley Scott made in this movie were baffling. I about checked out when Michael Fassbender was kissing Michael Fassbender. This movie had some decent ideas, but it was a mess. I also was not a fan of David’s motives in this film, felt totally forced.
