Fargo (1994) — What was the significance of the encounter between Marge and Mike Yanagita?

I’ve watched this movie countless times, love every moment, but I can never quite figure out the purpose of the encounter that Marge has with Mike Yanagita in Minneapolis. It’s a great scene, but what is the purpose? Mike calls Marge to get together, he tries to initiate an affair based on the premise that his wife died of cancer, Marge politely listens but pushes off his advances, and then finds out later that his wife, Linda, was actually still alive. What is this trying to tell us about the main story or about Marge herself that is relevant to the main story? What are your thoughts?Edit: Sorry — Fargo was 1996. My bad. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/hbDFkHA
