What action movies are NOT dumb fun?

Reading reviews of the new Pacific Rim movie and most people mention how you need to turn your brain off to enjoy this CGI fest. And it got me thinking of what would be a smart action movie.I know a lot of the classics are from the 80s and 90s, a golden age of action movies, when Jerry Bruckheimer had a golden touch.
