After seeing Prey, it’s a crime Dan Trachtenberg didn’t do Uncharted.
I’m obsessed with the Uncharted after burning through all four games last summer. I think it can really translate well to screen, and I personally think it can take the place of an Indiana Jones type franchise of our generation instead of doing a fifth Indy film or doing an Indy reboot. The gameplay makes for a very cinematic experience if they follow the mechanics so it’s easy to get right. It’s a damn shame the Uncharted film turned out as generic as it possibly could with one of the worst castings for Nathan Drake I’ve seen (and I thought Wahlberg was a bad choice for Drake).I just saw Prey and it pretty much checked all the boxes of how Uncharted should’ve been film. I then checked 10 Cloverfield Lane and even in a small setting, it had a similar action and feel of Uncharted. Now it stung more when I found out Tratchtenberg was the original choice for for Uncharted before leaving for creative differences. For someone who’s a fan of the games, the point where he took visual references and movements from the games (10 Cloverfield Lane’s movements was inspired by Uncharted’s gameplay.)It’s just frustrating to think what we could’ve had. And now Hollywood bastardizes popular IPs in favor of the popularity of actors than service the material by hiring passionate people. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/7H3AFgo
