Peter Jackson's 'King Kong' (2005) Deserves Our Love

The 13 year old film is generally well regarded beyond an obvious running time issue but I can’t help feeling it’s been forgotten/taken for granted. A small example; Mortal Engines is currently being advertised as "From the filmmakers of 'The Lord of the Rings' & 'The Hobbit'". Maybe it's genre, but something's wrong in a world where 'The Hobbit' is considered a bigger marketing draw than 'King Kong'.This movie is special.I don’t think I’ve seen a blockbuster before (E.T. perhaps?) or since that’s packed such an intense emotional wallop. The jaw dropping huge-scale action sequences put the Transformers films to shame (Bumblebee could turn a corner) with animalistic brutality being elegantly choreographed and staged so the audience can follow with ease. The thrilling events of Skull Island disarm the audience and leave them somewhat unprepared for that tragic knock-out finale.The score is a remarkable piece of work from James Newton Howard; it’s mostly bombastic thrills but the track ‘Central Park’ is my personal favourite.
