Kit Keller In A League Of Their Own Is Awful Beyond Measure

This is a rant. So I just watched A League Of Their Own for like the 47th time because it's a great movie. But every time I watch it I come away more and more frustrated with Kit "Bane Of My Sanity" Keller. She is the ABSOLUTE WORST and I'm just gonna list out some of the reasons why:She absolutely refuses to listen to anyone that tries to help her and in fact treats constructive criticism as a slight against her because she is immature af. "Lay off the high ones" is just good advice, not an attack. Freaking 7 year olds in tee ball league are better at accepting coaching than her.Even though Dottie is literally bending over backwards to prop up her sister and her fragile ego the entire freaking movie, somehow Kit still finds a way to resent her. Dottie is seriously just looking out for her the whole way and yet Kit lashes out and blames Dottie for all her shortcomings. Shortcomings that btw probably wouldn't be a thing if she would just accept feedback, see point 1.When Doris makes a wise crack about her not being able to finish a game, Kit physically assaults her. She is so out of control that Jimmy has to carry her like a toddler throwing a tantrum and throw her under a cold shower, where she proceeds to stomp and flail and piss and moan. An ill-timed and snarky comment by Doris? Certainly. But once again Kit shows that she has the emotional depth of a 2nd grader and would sooner attack a teammate than acknowledge that coming out of the game was the right thing to do for her team. This is a trend throughout the movie btw as she places her own ego above the better interests of the Peaches (and Belles at the end, but more on that later) repeatedly. When she gives up the lead in the top of the 9th in game 7, she just breaks down and sulks on the bench. As a professional athlete there may be a time and place to kick yourself for such things, but it's not in the bottom of the 9th with the series on the line and your team counting on you to shake it off. Once again showing her emotional ineptitude and complete lack of growth throughout the movie. Seriously Stillwell (angel) is less of a child, at least he knows he's being a little sh*t.When she has a chance to redeem herself with an at bat in the final frame, SHE STILL WON'T LAY OFF THE HIGH ONES!! Three straight pitches. Again...zero growth. Yes I know how it ends but FFS it's a complete stroke of luck that she connects on the last one. After this little blind squirrel finds a nut and knocks in the tying run, she completely blows off her 3rd base coach and runs right through the sign to hold up and proceeds to recklessly chug on home. Why? Because nothing and no one is more important than her flimsy ego. It's a completely selfish play and she would have been out by a country mile had it not been for the drop, which leads me to this last point...The drop. OH. MY. EFFING. GAWD. THAT MOTHERF*KING DROP!! This one is on Dottie and I'm beyond disappointed in her. It. Was. On. Purpose. Don't you *dare say it wasn't, that's not up for debate, it most certainly was. Dottie has it the whole way, all the way to the ground, and then when her arm gently drops to the dirt it just falls out? BS! There is no way she didn't do that intentionally and if you have any doubt of that, Penny Marshall nullifies any misinterpretation by showing a mirror scene earlier in the movie with a different baserunner where Dottie hangs on and gets the out. I'm so beyond mad about this scene! Like at everyone! Dottie for putting her childish brat of a little sister above the rest of her team who literally put their blood sweat and tears into the game and the entire season. Jimmy for not laying into her afterwards like she deserves. The writers for not being able to come up with any way to actually have Kit redeem herself, because let's face it this is not a redemption (like seriously? how about you have her actually work the count and get a good pitch to hit? or Kit listens to her coach and holds up at third and gets knocked in on a bloop single to win the game? at least those options show that she did any kind of small modicum of personal growth). But most of all...most of all I'm just STEAMED that this is the ending that Kit gets in this movie. She does literally EVERYTHING WRONG and gets REWARDED for it! She deserves to fail! She learns NOTHING! NOOOOOTHIIINNNGGGGGGG!!!!! Like wtf are we trying to teach the audience here? Be a stubborn selfish wretch and you'll get what you want? Unbelievable...Anyway, if you've read all this way then you probably think I hate this movie, but the thing is I don't. I actually love this movie. It's iconic and hilarious and the fact that it gets me so worked up just goes to show how good it truly is. But I'm just sitting here, absolutely incapable of getting any sleep tonight until I get this stewing frustration out into words and hopefully finding some redditors that agree with me. So if you feel the way I do, I'd love to hear from you. Also if I've left out any reasons why Kit SUCKS, please share. And if you disagree...weeeelllllll you're wrong...but I'd still be curious to hear why. Thanks y'all! via /r/movies https://ift.tt/jUROT8h
