The Prestige(2006)

https://ift.tt/DnYm6w8 I rate The Prestige as Nolan's best movie to date, followed by The Dark Knight. Inception and Interstellar were great but the spectacle often overshadowed the drama and character there, while Dunkirk and Tenet were distinctly underwhelming.Nolan works best when he is dealing with conflict, be it the rivalry between the two magicians here, or the Batman vs Joker conflict in The Dark Knight, or even the mind games between Al Pacino and Robin Williams in Insomnia. And that is to me makes Prestige such a great movie. The characters of Robert Angier(Hugh Jackman) and Alfred Borden( Christian Bale) and the rivalry between these two is the best part. The rivalry itself has many layers, the tricks used by both to outdo each other, Angier's obsession to get one over Borden that in a way leads to his downfall, and their own personal lives that go out of spiral. While Nolan uses his standard twists in the narrative, the conflict between these 2 men, and exploration of envy, obsession ensures this does not get too gimmicky. It also helps that both Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman are excellent actors, with their performances elevating it. Michael Caine, always gets a good deal in Nolan's movies, and here too as John Cutter, the stage engineer under whom both have worked with, in fact his character allows you to get the best perspective on Angier and Borden.Special mention to David Bowie as Nikola Tesla, the scene with him and Hugh Jackman is one of the best in the movie. One of those movies I can watch again and again, and every time some new angle comes out. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/AxDwzhJ
