Did Transcendence ruin Wally Pfister's career?

Wally Pfister came to prominence as the cinematographer for Christopher Nolan's initial run of hit movies. His collaborations with Nolan included:MementoInsomniaBatman BeginsThe PrestigeThe Dark KnightInceptionThe Dark Knight RisesEveryone here, and many people off Reddit, have surely heard of or seen every single one of those movies. He was nominated for Oscars for Best Cinematography for Batman Begins, The Prestige, and The Dark Knight, and then finally won for Inception. So then, Wally decides he would like to direct a movie. He goes for Transcendence - a promising sci fi script that seems up his alley. Nolan and Emma Thomas join as executive producers, the film casts A-lister Johnny Depp, plus has Rebecca Hall, Morgan Freeman, and Cilian Murphy (all Nolan alumni) so it basically FEELS like a Nolan film even though it isn't.And then ... it releases, and it sucks. 19% on Rotten Tomatoes. Didn't even make back it's listed production budget. Critics and audiences all hate it.SO what happened to Wally Pfister? Well, Christopher Nolan moved on and actually managed to upgrade cinematographers by partnering with Hoyte von Hoytema. Their movies Interstellar, Dunkirk, and Tenet have all been hits. Hoytema has recently been confirmed to be the cinematographer on the upcoming Oppenheimer.Meanwhile, Pfister's credits since Transcendence are:Directed 4 episodes of the TV series Flaked in 2016Directed 2 episodes of the TV series The Tick in 2016THAT'S IT! Even the most recent line on his Wikipedia page is that in 2015 he stated he's done working as a cinematographer and wants to be a director moving forward. There could be plenty happening behind the scenes, and Pfister might be perfectly happy right now, but on paper it REALLY seems like the flop of Transcendence ended the career of a 4-time Oscar nominee at the top of his game. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3DNSNdf
