The Thing (2011) is actually really good and succeeds as a prequel.
After watching both movies for the first time recently, I heard the 2011 version wasn't good so I had no intention of watching it until I enjoyed the original so much, I really wanted more.I just finished the prequel and I'm walking away really happy with it. I really enjoyed how well this version, like the original, was able to create a sense of continuous intense tension broken up only by the occasional adrenaline-filled body horror. I'm also grateful they made a prequel movie set in the 80s without any "lol look how 80s this is" kind of jokes.Only complaint (and honestly what I assume was at the root of the bad reputation this movie has) was the ending. Specifically, in the last 20 minutes we go on a tonally out-of-place spaceship tour. I can understand they wanted a dramatic ending but not wanting to do the same thing the original did and that there's not exactly a lot to work with in the setting. But the hard sci-fi design of the ship makes it feel lame. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/86K12HB
