Josie and the Pussycats (2001) is a great example of "having your cake and eating it too" (next to Wayne's Wold)

Josie and the Pussycats came out when I was about 10 and all I remember was the music was catchy and Parker Posey is amazing, but the forth wall breaking, straight forward writing and in-your-face ads were wasted on a kid's mind. The Coca-Cola, Target, Starbucks, Motorola and countless other product placements were so blatant and shameless, Wayne and Garth would have given them a high five.-/-Alexander: You know what? I still don't know why you're here.Alexandra: I appear because I was in the comic book.Alexander: What?Alexandrea: Nothing.-/-Wyatt: Come on! Would you be more interest in a band simply called 'The Pussycats' OR are you more likely to buy a CD or read a comic or watch a cartoon or go and see a movie about a trio of luscious ladies called 'Josie and the Pussycats'! Hm?!Melody: It does have a nice ring to it.-/-Alan Cumming and Parker Posey take the ham to 11 when they're on screen together and I have the feeling that they just had fun in their roles. One thing that I would have never appreciated as an 10 year old was the short educational film about brain washing scheme, they used a Canadian actor saying 'God bless America' with an Asian woman waving a flag behind him. Another thing that I love is that basing a movie on 'current trends' makes for a fantastic time capsule for fashion and makeup of the late 90's to early 2000's that can be used for a reference for retro fashion enthusiasts that's happening now since it's the 20 year fashion cycle.I just wanted to fangirl over an underrated movie that encapsulates that decade's love for fourth wall breaking, wink and nudge dialogue, fashion and acting. It's there next to Not Another Teen Movie and Scary Movie.Edit: World wtf me via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3BFOfGc
