The final confrontation in Sherlock Holmes Game of Shadows is genius
I very much like the movie, I think it's really well made with an interesting plot and great action sequences (and way less offensive to the mythos than most SH fans think), but what really makes it great is the final fight between Holmes and Moriarty. They're silently staring at each other. You have Holmes' tachypsychia elaborating the fight before it starts, his brain working so fast to create a favourable scenario around his own weaknesses (he's got a very badly wounded shoulder) and exploit Moriarty's. In the end, according to his analysis, he prevails. But surprise, Moriarty, being Holmes' equal in terms of brains and perhaps a bit more, is doing the same. He knows what Holmes is doing. He thinks "Come now, you really think you're the only one who can play this game?" and proceeds to envision a very different fight and outcome, which is what is probably going to happen. Then Holmes, realizing he can't win, goes for the surprise effect by blowing his pipe in Moriarty's face, grabs him and throws them both into the fall. To me, the whole idea was a stroke of brilliance, no real fistfight occurs, just two incredibly gifted men in front of each other via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2HwnNWS
