"Killer Klowns From Outer Space" How and why have i not heard of this 80's gem before?

*** Warning! This contains a GEM word ****Accidently selected what i thought was just a 'B' movie to fall asleep to one night. This had me laughing out loud. Im a 80's kid that loved Gremlins, Tremors and to a lesser degree Critters. So how had i never heard of this ? I see from wiki it was a flop but has since gained cult following and rightly so.
