Layer Cake (2004) is a terrific film. It felt like I was experiencing Lock Stock/Snatch/Rocknrolla for the first time again.
Honestly had never heard of this movie and loved every bit of it. I genuinely didn't know what was going to happen next right up to the very end. It reminded me a lot of Guy Ritchie's films but with a distinctly different editing style.Soundtrack was incredible (I had never heard Ordinary World by duran duran before but god damn what a song, comfortably numb kind of vibes, and used in such a disturbing context). Genuinely might have been some of the best use of music i've ever seen in a film.Cast was absolutely stacked, with even small roles played by the likes of Tom Hardy and Ben Wishaw. Michael Gambon playing an antagonist was delightful. And Sienna Miller, she was absolutely stacked too.And something that stood out was the way the characters talked to each other. Yeah there were clever 1 liner english quips here and there ('england, even the drug dealers don't work weekends'), but there were also a lot of interactions that seemed... grounded? Like when the hitman Dragan calls the main character, they actually talk to each other, it isn't like one makes ominous threats and then hangs up. Instead they make an ominous threat but stay on the line because the other person has more to say. Just little stuff like that made this a really fun movie to watch. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3dcPe53
